The
line
has
been
closed
since
mid-January.
That
forced
the
suspension
of
freight
to
and
from
the
Port
of
Maputo
into
Zimbabwe
and
other
countries
in
the
region.
On
Friday,
1
May
2026,
Mozambique
Ports
and
Railways
—
Portos
e
Caminhos
de
Ferro
de
Moçambique,
or
CFM,
said
repairs
were
finished,
and
traffic
resumed
on
1
May.
Below
is
CFM’s
statement
on
the
reopening:
“The
Executive
Directorate
of
CFM-South
hereby
informs
the
general
public,
customers,
and
stakeholders
that,
following
the
successful
completion
of
extensive
rehabilitation
and
restoration
works
on
the
railway
infrastructure,
full
operational
clearance
has
been
granted
for
the
Limpopo
Railway
Line
along
its
entire
length,
effective
01st
May
2026.
“Accordingly,
rail
traffic
is
hereby
fully
reinstated
for
both
passenger
and
freight
services,
covering
the
routes
from
Maputo
to
Chicualacuala
(Zimbabwe
and
Botswana
corridors)
and
vice
versa,
as
well
as
from
Maputo
to
Xinavane
and
vice
versa.
“This
milestone
marks
the
conclusion
of
a
period
of
service
interruption
necessitated
by
severe
flooding
and
inundations
that
significantly
affected
the
region
and
compromised
the
integrity
of
the
railway
infrastructure.
Through
coordinated
technical
efforts
and
operational
commitment,
normal
service
conditions
have
been
restored.
“We
express
our
sincere
appreciation
to
all
customers,
partners,
and
the
general
public
for
their
understanding,
patience,
and
cooperation
throughout
the
period
of
disruption.
“CFM-South
further
extends
its
gratitude
to
all
entities
that
contributed,
directly
and
indirectly,
to
the
successful
execution
of
the
rehabilitation
works,
with
special
recognition
to
the
local
authorities,
affected
communities,
ARA-Sul,
RBL-Chókwé,
Petromoc,
and
other
valued
partners
whose
support
was
instrumental
in
achieving
this
outcome.”
