Wellington
Muzengeza,
a
political
risk
analyst
and
urban
strategist,
argues
that
Zimbabwe’s
ruling
party,
ZANU-PF,
has
refined
what
he
describes
as
a
“politics
of
betrayal,”
draping
authoritarian
rule
in
the
legacy
and
symbolism
of
liberation.
Muzengeza
further
suggests
that
recent
developments
in
Zimbabwe,
show
how
liberation
movements
can
transform
into
authoritarian
systems,
shifting
from
emancipatory
ideals
to
entrenched
practices
of
domination.
He
also
adds
that
South
Africa’s
African
National
Congress-led
government
has,
in
various
ways,
enabled
such
patterns.
He
says
in
a
troubling
irony,
is
itself
beginning
to
exhibit
similar
traits
to
those
he
associates
with
ZANU-PF.
