BILL
WATCH
4/2026
The
Constitution
of
Zimbabwe
Amendment
(No
3)
Bill,
2026,
was
published
in
a
Gazette
Extraordinary
this
afternoon.
It
proposes,
amongst
other
things:
-
that
the
President
should
be
elected
by
Parliament
rather
than
by
voters
in
a
general
election -
that
the
President’s
term
of
office,
and
the
life
of
Parliament,
should
be
extended
by
two
years -
that
these
changes
should
apply
to
the
current
President
and
Members
of
Parliament,
so
that
the
next
general
election
will
be
held
in
2030
rather
than
2028.
